Stephen Leander Howell

Stephen Leander Howell, 75, of Farmland, IN, joined his Lord and Savior in glory on Thursday, October 5, 2023. Steve was born in Winchester, IN, on June 16, 1948, a son of Nina Mitchell Howell and the late Marvin Leander Howell. He was a 1966 graduate of Monroe Central High School and the loving husband of Deborah Robbins Howell, who he happily married on October 24, 1970. Steve was an employee of AT&T for 48 years, and he retired as a Plant Engineer.  He also served as a Monroe Central School Board Member for 16 years.  He was a lifelong and devoted member of Farmland Friends Church.  His passion for the Lord led him to ministry through Gideons International, Indiana Yearly Meeting (he served as Clerk), Friends United Meeting, Randolph County Right to Life, Randolph County Jail Ministry, and Compassion International.  After God & his family, Steve had a passion for the outdoors.  He was an avid bird-watcher & outdoorsman.  He was a lifelong member of the Audubon Society, and he enjoyed birding trips to Florida and the Indiana Dunes in his retirement.  He loved celebrating God's creation and said that's when he was most close with God.  He shared this by leading backpacking groups in the Smoky Mountains through the Church of Christ.  Steve also enjoyed bicycling, participating in the Hilly Hundred Bicycle Races in Bloomington, IN.  Steve was devoted to his family.  He served as President for the long-standing Howell-Mills Reunion.  He loved spending time with his wife & children and being caretaker to his mom.  Steve is survived by his mother Nina Howell, his wife Pastor Debi Howell, son Seth Leander Howell, daughter Anna Elisabeth Howell (Christian Weber), 2 grandsons; Owen Leander Howell, Griffin Gail Howell, sister in laws; Connie Sue Oren Howell, Becky Robbins Davis (Raven), brother in law Jack Alan McClees (Kim), nieces and nephews; Tony, Dawn, Lora, Todd, Melinda, Jeremy, Jayla, Amelia, Cade and numerous extended family, church family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Marvin Leander Howell, and brother Thomas Elliott Howell. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 3-7 PM at Farmland Friends Church. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at 1 PM at Farmland Friends Church with Pastor Dave Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Maxville, IN. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Farmland Friends Church (PO Box 275 Farmland, IN. 47340). Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries - Farmland Chapel.
