Mary Jordan Obituary

San Diego, CA
Mary Helen Jordan

Mary Helen Jordan, 108, of San Diego, CA, formerly of Modoc, IN, joined her Lord in Glory on December 20, 2023, peacefully at Glenflora Manor in San Diego, CA. She was born in Carlos, IN, on November 26, 1915, a daughter of the late Bertha Jane (Naylor) and George Washington Carey. Mary attended school in Huntington, IN, class of 1933, later furthering her education and becoming a licensed beautician. She may have been small in stature but mighty in spirit, for she knew what it meant to work hard, go after a dream, and achieve her goals.  It goes without saying that, throughout her life Mary has watched our world change in ways we can't begin to imagine. The dedicated wife of a farmer is no small task in itself, add on formerly working at the New Castle State Hospital, telephone switchboard operator in Modoc, IN, Sunday school teacher, church pianist, was owner and operator of R & M Beauty Shop in Modoc, IN, for 30 years and the mother of 2 children. Yet in that busy working life of a wife and mother, she still found time to enjoy a great many things such as her membership to Modoc Nazarene Church and later in life Mission Valley Nazarene Church in San Diego, painting, reading, history, and winning 1st place in the San Diego State Fair Knitting Division. Mary is survived by 1 daughter A. Charlene (Jordan) Teegarden (husband Byron) of San Diego, 1 son Alan Jordan (wife Bobbie) of Muncie, 6 grandchildren,  9 great grandchildren. and 7 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents George W. and Bertha J. Carey,  the love of her life Raymond R. Jordan who she happily married on November 2, 1935 and sadly lost on May 13, 1990, 1 brother Leroy Carey, 2 sisters; Margaret E. Edwards (her twin sister), and Ada E. Sears, and 3 great grandchildren. Burial has been held privately at the request and convenience of the family in  Riverside Cemetery in Losantville, IN. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 11 AM at MJS Mortuaries - Farmland Chapel with Dr. Kevin Holt officiating. There will be a brief period of visitation 30 minutes prior to the memorial service from 10:30-11 AM.
