Leemon Matthew Ward, Jr., 75, of Dunkirk, IN, passed away Friday, September 29, 2023 peacefully while in the company of family members at his residence. "Junior" was born in Portland, IN, on August 28, 1948 a son of the late Mary (Nichols) and Leemon M. Ward Sr. He was a graduate of Dunkirk High School and dedicated his career to Environment Technology. "Junior" was the loving husband of the late Cynthia Lu (Leamon) Ward who he happily married on September 4, 1990 and sadly lost on November 4, 2010. He was a lifetime member of the Dunkirk Moose Lodge #1352, and enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, hunting, watching Western's, Andy Griffith, MASH, IU Basketball, Bob Knight, Indianapolis Colts, Cincinnati Reds, listening to BlueGrass and Country music, collecting knives, trips to Tennessee to visit family, slow dancing with his late wife and spending time with his kids and grandkids. "Junior" is survived by 4 sons; Matthew Burkey, Craig Cassidy (Amanda), Cory Ward (Tressa), Lonnie Ward, 4 daughters; Carolyn (Ward) Weagant, Carrie Martin (Jim), Candice Ackerman (William), Mary Christine (Ward) Braun, 28 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary E. and Leemon M. Ward, Sr., wife Cynthia Lu Ward, 1 son David A. Riley, 1 brother William Raymond Ward, and 1 sister Janice Arnold. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023 from 12-2 PM at the Dunkirk Church of the Nazarene. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM with Pastor Randy Davis officiating. Burial will be held in Dunkirk IOOF Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Dunkirk Moose Lodge #1352 (PO Box 111 Dunkirk, IN. 47336). Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries.
