James (Jim) Arthur Lay

James (Jim) Arthur Lay, 61, of Ridgeville, IN, passed away peacefully on Dec. 17, 2022. Jim Lay was born on Oct. 17, 1961 to the late Nancy (Ogden) and Joseph Lay in Portland, IN. Jim was formerly employed at the fur shack, owned by Gary Sayers, along with running his own business, James A. Lay Painting & Roofing. Jim was an outdoors man to his very core. He always said he preferred the simpler life of living off the land. You would always find him doing something that involved the outdoors whether it was hunting, trapping, fishing, or gardening. He took annual fishing trips to Shak-A-Mak with friends and family. Sometimes staying there longer than planned because he loved to be there. If by the off chance you found him inside, it was probably a Sunday football night which he enjoyed to share with his buddies and his son, Josh Lay. He is survived by his son, Josh Lay (wife Amanda), daughter, Mariah Lay, brother, Chris Lay (wife Sandi) and grandsons, Jeremiah and Josiah Lay. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nanci Jo Lay. Services are private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries - Ridgeville Chapel.
