Gary D. Adkins, 77, of Hope, IN, formerly of Dunkirk, IN, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023 peacefully while in the company of family members at the Waters of Dunkirk, in Dunkirk, IN. Gary was born in Muncie, IN, on June 15, 1946, a son of the late Verina and Newell Adkins. He was an extremely hard working, strong willed and determined man who hauled stone at a local Stone Quarry to provide for his family. beneath that tough exterior Gary was quiet, loving, enjoyed spending time with family and was always there for you. He enjoyed fishing, animals, farming, hunting, watching wrestling, and listening to classic country music. He is survived by his daughter, Penny Anderson, son, Tommy Adkins, Sr. (Stephanie), dear friend, Rebecca (Phillips) Adkins, 3 sisters; Mila, Joann, Wonda, 2 brothers; Marvin and Bob Adkins, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren  and 1 more on the way, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Joy Lynn Burris, 2 brothers; Donald and Jim, 1 sister Betty and son in law Michael P. Anderson. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requested donations be made to Riley Children’s Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries.
