Dora Evelyn Hitchens, 95, of Winamac, IN, formerly of Dunkirk, IN, passed away February 1, 2023 peacefully at the Pulaski Health Care Center. Evelyn was born in Winchester, IN, on April 22, 1927, a daughter of the late Bertha Catherine (Green) and Noah Monroe. She was the widow of the late James Robert Hitchens; he preceded her in death on February 22, 2000. She was formerly employed by Indiana Glass Company in Dunkirk, IN. Evelyn was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and the Dunkirk American Legion Auxiliary. She had 7 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Evelyn is survived by a son Charles David Hitchens (wife Nancy), daughter-in-law Jenny Hitchens and 1 sister Barbara Crist (husband Jimmy). She was preceded in death by 1 son Tony Randall Hitchens, 2 brothers Jesse Monroe (wife Mary) and George Monroe, 1 sister Mary Wilker, sister-in-law Elsie Jennings, and 2 grandchildren David Hitchens (son of Tony and Jenny Hitchens) and Christina D. (Hitchens) Rife (daughter of Dave and Nancy Hitchens). Friends are invited to visit Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 12 to 2 PM at MJS Mortuaries - Redkey Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM with Chris Ingram officiating. Burial will be held at Dunkirk 100F Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries.
