Calista Davenport Obituary

Calista Ann (Linn) Davenport, 87, of Muncie, IN, formerly of Dunkirk, IN, peacefully passed away Friday, January 12, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. Calista was born in Portland, IN, on October 6, 1936, daughter of the late James Henry and Maude Fern (Hartman) Linn. She was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, class of 1954, worked as both a florist and an interior decorator, and was the loving wife of the late Bonnie Gene "Bud" Davenport, whom she happily married on December 24, 1958, and sadly lost in 2013. She had a love for the creative arts, played piano and organ, sang in the church choir, and made costumes for church plays. Calista loved Jesus and was a Sunday School teacher in her early adult years. She was a member of Glad Tidings Church in Muncie, IN. Calista was an immaculate woman, always well put together, and took pride in cleaning and decorating her home. She was a woman with class; quiet, shy, and reserved in how she carried herself. In her spare time, she enjoyed tending to her flowers and landscaping, reading, listening to gospel music, decorating, and traveling, especially on mission trips. She is survived by 2 daughters; Shawn Davenport, Angel Alter (Michael), daughter-in-law Vee Vallerie, 6 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Maude Linn, husband Bud Davenport, daughter Ruste "Jill" Vallerie, brother Charles Debatty, and sister Juanita McCurdy. Visitation will be from 11-1 on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Eaton Union Cemetery Chapel in Eaton, IN. A celebration of life service will follow at 1 PM with Dr. Kevin Holt officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Muncie Mission. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Heart to Heart Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Calista and her family during this difficult time. Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries.
